Tax exempt bio-diesel Landy?

Hi, all.

New to the forum . In a perfect world, I would like a UK tax exempt Landy, that runs on bio-diesel.

A lot to ask, I know.

Does anybody know whether this is acheivable? I want a Landy, but want to be environmentally friendly, and prefer not to pay tax if poss. The Landy will be for hobby use only, so no pre-defined requirements.

Any thoughts?

hi chris i been running mine on salad days cooking oil i guess thats bio no alterations neither at 35 a litre paying tax is not a problem is it. i just smell like a mobile chippy coming down the road but who cares it works

What is "salad days cooking oil"?

The question I guess is, how old does your Landy have to be before it is tax exempt, and do any of these vehicles take (run reliably, I mean) this sort of fuel or any other bio-diesel?

Failing this, in order to be green and tax efficient, could a bio-diesel compatible engine be put into an older (tax exempt) vehicle?

For tax exemption it has to have been registered before 1st August 1973. There are exceptions to this (newer vehicles can be exempt) but the paper trail and proof of manufacturing date is a nightmare.

Hmmm, a lightweight with a TD5 engine running Bio diesel, now there's a thought...

Is that physically possible? Sounds awesome!

So I guess I'll be looking at a Series 2, if I want to use Bio Biesel, and for it to be tax-exempt (pre Aug 73). Anybody else done this?

Thats veg oil, it becomes Bio Diesel once it has completed the transesterification process.

It is possible, a guy I know has a series, he managed to get build it up and get a plate which met the tax exempt dates, I think you need to have the chassis and the reg of an old one basicly, so you could mix and match and make your own.

He has my old 2.5 petrol engine running on LPG, but if he went Diesel he would have a Bio/tax exempt machine.
