Tap Tap Tap 300 tdi

Hi,

I have a 300tdi and there seems to be a tap tap tap noise coming from the fuel injector pump. it sounds like a ball bearing being shook up and down in a tube.

Any ideas?

may be worth checking the valve stem caps. 300tdi do have a habit of wearing them out or becoming dislodged then you get alot of tapping noise but from the head not the pump.

Could this noise be described as a ticking? If so, it sounds like the lift pump is on its way out. Cheap and easy to replace, about £20 from Paddocks/Craddocks.

vacuum pump can also make that noise.

Mine made that noise shortly before the rocker shaft came adrift !!!!
