Tandem vs Tri-Axle Trailers

I'm currently using a 14' Ifor (lm146) twin axle for hauling my 1.5 tonne mower around for work. I do quite a bit of offroading on a daily basis with the trailer and just wondered what peoples opinions were on the performance of a triple over a tandem.

The dual wheels ride over (small) holes and dips better than the landy tires so I can only imagine the tri would be even better still. Can anyone vouch for this?

almost impossible to steer with or without load on when not coupled up
less payload due to higher net weight

Weight isnt an issue as it will really only ever have up to 1.5 tonne on it and i'll not be getting rid of the 14' tandem.

With tyre wear, I was wondering that as the weight is spread over 6 tyres instead of the 4, the wear kind of cancels itself out. I can imagine the envelope on a 14' triaxle is practically the entire length when putting something like that mower on it. Behind a LWB transit tipper, the tandem doesnt seem to care where the mower is. Behind the disco, its a little more sensitive.

What he says carnt really add to it, beside when I was looking I strayed away as we sometimes have to move it inside a unit without a car / van to push,

I also have a lm146

They're a good trailer. Had 4 tonnes gross on mine (JCB 8025 ZTS) with couple of buckets etc. No problems.

Now the next question... 130 or Iveco Daily 4x4.. I might start a thread on that at some point.
 
The stability thing is quite a big factor, as with a tandem , you can load so cog is slightly forward , and it is stable, then whilst travelling at speed you have a tyre let go on 2nd axle , the cog then moves rearward past the front axle which is now bearing most of the load , result snaking , which could be beyond controlling :(

Depends on three main points
1 how long you intend to keep it ,
2 how much covered space you need
3 resale value

Commercial use implies a tachograph requirement?

Unless things have changed in the last 5 years, I was told by a VOSA officer while he pulled me to inspect that I did not need a tacho when towing commercially for carriage of tools for the job. If I were to remove a tree though and take the wood away, unless I bought that wood off the customer, I would need a tacho.

Now as I will probably end up going for a 5.2 tonne Iveco, I will have to have another look at all the rules and check licence too. Too young for grandfather rights.

I'm not going to make a thread for Iveco vs 130 as a 130 cannot do what I require due to size and weight limitations without modification, (unfortunately?) The Iveco wins.
