Hi Im new on here and this is my first post so please go easy on me . I've just bought a Freelander 2003 reg and the tailgate window doesn't work and its fully up so the boot won't shut properly. I think its the regulator that's broke so my question is how can I test the regulator and if it is broke how do I get the window down or out so I can replace it.

Hi, can you hear any clicking when you operate the tailgate release handle & checked fuse 31 in the main fuse box? Presuming it's RHD it's in the glove box to the right of the steering wheel, if these are ok it might be worth disconnecting the battery for a minute then re-connect it as this will reset the control unit. After that it will be a case removing the tailgate door card to check the cable hasn't broken or the motor has gone boobies up, you can replace the bits separately or a whole regulator inc. motor. It's a good job the tailgate is open because this can happen when it's shut & is a pain in the backside because you can't get the door card off to check bits:mad:. Welcome to the forum & best of luck, there's plenty of people on hear to help.
Also if you are going to disconnect the battery make sure you have the radio code before doing so.

If I recall correctly the boot door card is held on with 4 screws at the bottom. Take them out, grab the bottom and yank it towards you. Then lift it up and away. Don't be surprised if you find a bodge has been done by the previous owner.

Do you have your fob key handy. If you stand at the back of the door and press for open, keep your finger on until you can hear or see movement. You can put a little pressure on the glass if stiff to go down. If it is the regulator that not working. To replace all you can cut the cables and drop the glass to free this. Some leave the door card off and stick a block of wood to prop up the window.
