I'm a 90 man so don't have much to do with electrics but I'm helping a friend out, I couldn't find the same problem he's having so I'll explain.

I started off thinking it's to do with the micro switch in the door handle which was sticking on.
The tailgate window doesn't always go back up after shutting the door, so open & shut the door a couple of times & it will work. It also sometimes goes back up but you then can't set the alarm as it thinks its still down.

Am I right in thinking it needs a new motor, regulator & cables

i've only had 1 failure with the tailgate window system that needed a new motor, regulator & cables
that's when the cable broke .. it were obvious by the noise ..

b4 spending £££ on the big bits
maybe take the rear door card off and have a look around ..
i.e. for bad wiring connections .. corrosion .. etc

if the door lock needs to come out it ain't hard to do
just a bit fiddly

am sure someone who knows a bit more on the subject
will be along to offer more detailed advise :-]

Had a situation a few months back where I put the tailgate window down and it would not come back up at all, the solution was to disconnect the battery wait a min then connect back up, apparently this resets something and Hay presto all is working normally again.
Hope this helps out, best of luck.

Does the interior light go off when the window doesn't go up? If not it's most likely the lock mechanism in the door. That's where the boot door micro switch is.
