Freelander 2 (LR2) Tailgate unlocking itself

Just bought my first Freelander 2 and experiencing very odd locking or rather not locking. 57 plate. On locking with the fob, the boot hatch unlocks and makes clicking noises. Sometimes I've gone back to the car and the rear hatch door is clicking away merrily on its own. On trying to lock again on the fob, the horn beeps once only and the car won't lock. Obviously not secure, how on earth do I fix this?

Sounds like boot switch has usual moisture ingress, gets in around high brake light , fix will be a new switch

Yes, thanks for asking. I found it quite straightforward to fit and the tailgate appears to be locking and unlocking properly now. Thank you Forum guys for your help. The step by step guide on u tube was also huge help. Next job will be clunk from front offside, which I think may be an anti roll bar bush. I hope I find that straight forward too.
