Tailgate door stuck then opening then stuck then opening

Hi, I have 2005 TD4 manual. The tailgate suddenly wouldn't open and local Land Rover garage quoted £245 to fix. I decided to 'think no about it' and few days later, it opened agaIn! It then got stuck a few weeks later and then worked again. Before I depend all this money, does this situation mean anything to anyone? Thanks!

usually it is the back door handle there are micro switches in it and these can play up.

As Teddy says the micro switches can be problematic. Also blast the catch with penetrating oil and make sure it's aligned, they have a tendency to drop.

If the pull part of the handle feels floppy and not engaging it will be the two very small springs at the back that have broken down and rusted away. Can be found on fleebay. Try and get some stainless ones.
