Had a leaking brake cylinder so decided to replace both, as other side was sticking.
Currently, the back plates are 90 degrees out and shoes hang vertically. Old wheel cylinders match pipe runs and pipe connection is pointing to front of vehicle on both sides. As far I can figure this means the wheel cylinders have been installed by previous owner left for right and vice versa on each side.
Does this matter or just fit same way again to match pipe runs?

If the brakes worked ok before, you may as well leave as is. If you have.trouble bleeding them, you may need to revert to original spec.

The usual fitting is with shoes hanging vertical like this with cylinder at top , is yours different
I have rotated fronts to make pipe runs easier and bleeding

Thanks for this reply - very helpful - I think I was confused by the diagram in the Haynes manual. This is the way shoes hang on my LR.
As I can’t see any difference in the form or mechanics of the wheel cylinder - it would seem to me that there is no difference whether they are fitted left or right - just whatever fits best with the pipe runs - which in mine means they present with the connector on the cylinder facing forward. Or maybe I am just right and left dyslexic!
Again thanks for post. Must get better than Haynes…..
