Hello

I'm having some issues with my heater matrix in td5 it seems to clog up again a few days after I flushed it.
So I guess the only solution is to buy a new heater matrix. Until I receive a new is it possible to swap inlet and outlet hoses to see if this does any difference?

are they both at the same level?

if you pump in at the top, and out at the bottom, assuming theres not total flow, it will never empty of air

I did this on my 300tdi disco to try and unclog the heater matrix a bit, which has resulted in a warmer heater (almost too hot actually), but on the downside my veg oil fuel heat exchanger only gets warm by comparison now, as it now comes after the heater matrix in terms of flow. Think I'll switch it back soon, as the crud is probably dislodged enough in the heater matrix :)

Same level right next to each other

It does work with swapped hoses. Unfortunately it didn't solve my problem. I'll guess I'll have to buy a new matrix...

If you don't flush the whole system out properly then you may just clog up the new one too. Try a proper flush first, drain everything including block and pump clean water through with a hose (block, radiator, heater pipes etc)

What about remove matrix, drop some hot water and kettle descaler into the matrix and see what comes out? if it knackers it, so what its knackered anyway!
Ive cleaned out series rads this way, gets them pretty spick and span.

I'll try this

...and this if the above isn't enough

The problem is that the heat inside cabin comes and goes. If I drive more than 80 kph the heat is there 80% of the time. But when I go slower it's gone.
With the engine on in the driveway I removed the outlet hose of the matrix and a small stream of water comes out of the heater, that's why I think there is something wrong with the flow in the matrix. Should I look elsewhere? Could it be the water pump that doesn't have sufficient power to move water to the heater while driving "slow"?

Possibly, what does the water temperature gauge do when the heater isn't working?
