You probably have a leak, or the compressor seal is shot. Lots of threads about this, do a search.

Just bear in mind, the system on these cars will still pay up from time to time even if it's all in good order.

I have 4 new bags, no leaks, overhauled valve block with new o-rings and it still misbehaves occasionally.

It may be something to do with the height sensor under the car, not much experience with this though so not sure.

I was only half joking. It means there isn't enough air pressure in the system to raise the car. The system operates at 150psi (if I remember correctly - could be wrong) and its frankly under-specified for the job. Any leaks will slow it down immediately. Finding the leak is a process of elimination and mild witchcraft. Best first step is applying soapy water to lines, joints, plugs, etc and hoping for bubbles because at least you'll know what you're up against. If no bubbles you may have an internal leak in the valve block or compressor or just old suspension airbags that are becoming more porous. Barring all of the above it might be the height sensors sending strange signals or the EAS ECU that's simply fried. Good luck mate. Do the bubble test and get yer fault codes read. Or fit springs like BoB said!

i remember someone recomending this, open the door (that way the suspension wont attempt to opperate) run the engine for 10 minutes or so to charge the air system then shut the door and change height.

Im assuming (as i have no idea how it really works and this is just my brain guessing the physics behind it) that the car has a compressor and tank setup, so i guess that maybe you have a leak thats to great for the compressor to keep up with, but with a tank full of air it maybe enough to get you off the deck (even if you do just drop again.)

anythings worth a shot

I have yet to have a problem like this but if you have got a laptop get one of these RANGE ROVER P38 EAS AIR SUSPENSION RESET & FAULT FIND on eBay (end time 30-Nov-09 18:00:53 GMT) they do work and I have done a complete diognostic check on my EAS with it
Or you could put your location in yer user cp and maybe someone local could help? for small appreciative beer tokens that is :D:D

i had the same problem with mine might sound silly but check all the door switchs for intrior lights are working and the bonnet close sensor, my passenger door switch had failed and it was causing the suspension to stay in the lower position
