Suspension upgrade

I've just bought a new set of Bearmach Springs and Shocks for my 300TDI plus spring plates. Its the heavy duty kit with a 50mm lift. I'm probably going to fit it over the weekend and am looking for any hints and tips or likely problems, or anything else that can help really. If anyone has changed their suspension themselves a quick talk through it will save me some time, I'm assuming its fairly straight forward.

Take it back and change it for a standard height kit.

Why?

to be honest unless you are going to put huge **** off tyres on then standard height is more than ok. unless you like the look of a raised disco. if you do it there are plenty of threads on here to point you in right direction.
by the way i lifted my 90 and regret doing it, it doesnt enhance its abillity really.
Others will tell you different so read all you can and make your own choice.it aint a difficult job.

There was someone on here who fitted a 2" lift to his 300TDI Disco and the rear propshaft doughnut lasted about 4 weeks, he fitted another and it lasted 4 more weeks, or something like that? Different people have had different experiences with a little bit of lift - some no worries, some loads of problems. It was the doughnut that convinced me to avoid lifting my Disco - I'll be sticking with standard height.

Cheers guys. To be honest the Shocks on the Disco were knackered and needed changing anyway, so as I'm fitting a discreet Winch, I figured the 2" lift would give me just a bit more clearance around the lanes and farms, as the Disco retains the valance on the frount bumper. Also I have a full roof rack fitted and often have up to 300Kgs of animal feed and other gear in the back so this will soon account for the 2".

Probably wanna change the donut on the back prop for a normal uj. Also be aware you will chew through arm bushes on the front and rear axle.
Mine does it, when funds allow i will be getting cranked arms and polys to rectify this problem. Also until you do it, te steering will be vague and might not self-centre very well.

Thanks for that, I did ask the guy at mailorder 4x4 if I needed anything else, He said for a 2" lift I shouldn't need to change anything else. So it looks like another £300 needs to be spent.

shouldnt cost that much, just get a 200tdi rear prop and flange to get rid of the useless donut and get cranked arms if you need them. Some discos run fine without others have problems but you wont know until you use it

I'm assuming I just need the flange off the 200 rear prop is that right or do I need the whole prop and I assume I also need to get a UJ from somewhere as well. Sorry for what may seem like a daft question but My Disco ain't on the drive or I'd have a look. Just trying to get a clear picture in my head.

think you need the full prop as the 300 prop has connectors for the donut and a 200tdi prop has ujs at both ends.

last time i checked a 200tdi prop with good ujs was about £25-30 with the flange a couple of quid more

Have you got new front turret securing rings with the captive studs? Chances are they'll neck off when you undo them if they're tight and corroded. New ones make stripping it all back down easy if you need to alter something too.
New spring securing/retention brackets arent a bad idea too.

When I fitted new suspension to my disco it raised it by about 2" just due to the fact the old stuff had so much sag.

Taking into account all the extra expense and work I have decided to exchange the lift kit for a standard HD kit. that way I can afford my winch before xmas...

Good decision.
Get a Tirfor instead of a winch and spend the rest on beer - even better!
