Hello folks ... I'm touching base after returning from holiday and making time to have my P38 checked out. I joined the forum on September 19 after a main LR dealership in Glasgow told me I had a major EAS fault which would necessitate the replacement of the suspension valve block at £1000 plus labour. As if that wasn't nightmarish enough, they also warned that more than likely the entire system - ECU, compressor, air springs, the lot - would have to be renewed at a cost of FIVE GRAND.

Last week I took the car to an independent, Land Rover Diagnostics, Kirkintilloch, who hooked it to their computer which revealed a number of communication faults but NOTHING wrong with the suspension, which continues to function normally since the fault warning was erased at the dealership.

Land Rover Diagnostics reckon the warning may have been a result of the comms problem. An air con fault (cold at driver's side, hot on passenger's) and an intermittent SRS warning may also be down to comms. The independent has told me to drive the car normally, but get it back to him if there is another EAS warning but, goosed suspension or not, I will be returning to him to have the comms put right.

Sorry for rabbiting on but some of you asked for an update and I'm immensely grateful to everyone who advised me not to take the dealership's word for it. If it turns out that the suspension is okay, I will certainly visit them to let them know - and you can all come and watch! ;)

hi jetoid when i bought nmy rr had eas fault coming up on dash all the while like you took it to main stealers they told me same thing on taking to an independant they said there was no comms to the eas probably a wiring fault a quick by myself back through the system found the relay under the pass seat was missing bought one £46 from stealers put back on machine wiped all codes its been working great ever since so dont always trust what they say

STEALERS ... you're spot on, Steve. When the Green Oval is above the door, they charge more but know less. I'll get that relay checked out, too.

Well Jetoid,

You have sure gotten your full value from your LandyZone subscription already.

Oh, you haven't paid yet?

I will get the treasurer on the job - our very own HybridGirl.

We can't have a LandRover Forum not keeping up appearances by ripping all the owners off, can we?

I was quoted over £800 for retrofit cruise control in my TD5 Discovery. Because of this forum I got the job done in less than an hour and for under £50. Even I could tell the difference.

Point taken, CharlesY. As I said, I'm immensely grateful for the advice I've received already. It really has been worth a fortune and it's ironic that it has come here at LandyZone, a "free community". The stealerships wouldn't approve, would they? To them, "free" is indeed a four-letter word starting with "F" ...
