Suspension air pump problem

I have 1999 p38. My suspension is working very well, but the air motor seams as if it is running more than it needs to be. When I start up it works ok but after I have run for only a mile or so and stop at a junction on idle the motor seams as if its running on with a heavy vibration and is very nosy then suddenly it goes quiet and no vibration. Can any one advise please?

Vibration is down to the mounts-they must only be nipped up. Pump stopping is probably due to thermal cut out kicking in. Replace the piston seal-but check the cylinder bore for wear/damage and if neccesary replace that as well otherwise it will wreck the new seal quickly.

hi thanks for that. i was reading the manual and it said if the motor is running to much i should change the RL20 switch what ever that means. do you know of this please?

Unlikely to be RL20 from what you describe, more likely to be the piston seal worn which means that the compressor has to work harder or you have a leak somewhere causing the compressor to again work harder, does the suspension drop overnight.

hi the suspension dose not drop even been stod for 2 days and is ok. i had all new boots fitted about 3 weeks ago by rover garage and has been ok. i think you are right i will get seal done. by the way could not get videos working.

Hi Tucker, Had lots of problems with my P38 with the suspension, i did away with the air suspension and went over to springs and shocks . This was the best thing i have ever done to my P38. It handles better , tows better, no wallowing in corners as it used to , and it was allways going wrong and had to be reset on the computer . ( a big bind) Its brilliant now and handlels like a sports car. The kit comes with all you need to convert and is very easy to fit with the right tools .

Get the seal replaced in the compressor, and replace the mountings too while you're at it.

When I had similar vibration from the pump and after doing this its all silent in the garden again.
