ok its been talked about but i cant fine what im looking for so hear goes
I can (with a screw driver) wind the sunroof right back and with a little help
the motor will close it.
all the running gear/rails are nicely greased motor sounds good.
but there is a ticking sound when the motor is under pressure but you can still see the gear go round
(like a tooth missing from the gear box motor)
can i take the motor out vie the interior light unit. or is it a lining down job.
thanks
j

if you look on ebay they are selling a new motor gear item number 321713658737 I brought one and have fixed it here is how get a thin bladed screw driver and under the gearing knock it in and prize it up, it will pull the plastic drive out as well do not worry now put into vice but do not tighten so as the worn wider cog is either side of the vice jaws then with a punch knock at the middle of the shaft it will come out and you will see the difference in the new cog and the old one, now you will need to file the top of the splines that go into the new cog but only a little as it will not fit in as they have been pressed together in the beginning and is splayed out a bit , now knock it into the new cog ,do not be heavy handed and then you need to put the plastic cog back into the plastic cog in the motor try to be very precise and bingo you now have a reconditioned motor and no more clicking I will try to get some photos on tomorrow.

many thanks for your write up. have order a new cog.
did you take the motor out the light hole or bring the roof lining down.
thank you
james

look at the first picture of how worn the cog is the new one is already on another motor first get a small bladed screw drive and knock it in under the cog once it is partly up you should be able to prize it out then you have the upper and lower cogs you need to separate them and the best way is to put it in a vice or even a socket where it holds the top and not the bottom then knock through then after you have separated them you need to file the top of the bottom cogs this has splines on and it is a bit splayed out (I for got to take a picture at this point)and it will not fit back into the top cog unless filed down a tiny bit .then line it up with the splines in the motor and do not for get to put the spring back in. the a small knock with a hammer and it is all back together. hope this helps some body the next time you sun roof is clicking away

cog came today and finished work early.
first thing take motor out had to take trim off sunroof pulled lining down to get to those hard to get screws.
next cog came out of motor ok then the fun be gain trying to remove old cog
lots off banging in the end i had to hacksaw the cog off the shaft was so mushroomed i had to grind the worst off.
had to heat up new cog to get it to fit (in the vice in the end to push it together)
put it all back in my freelander and sod it it still clicks
dam dam dam and so on.
so must be the cable ( the new cog and the old one where pretty much the same size)
so is it a easy job to put new cables in and how.

been thinking and as i can manually wind the sunroof back with a screw driver
dose that mean the cables are ok and its the gearbox itself
just a thought
