yes I have renewed the parts with the cables but be careful little plastic things can snap. if it is running rough try a little grease on the moving parts by taking the glass out you can do this by sitting in your car and looking up and on each side there is a plastic stip remove it and you will see three screws each side remove these and then you can take the glass off

Not worth paying someone to do it then ?

Not really worth it. There's 2 small torx screws either side when the plastic trims are removed, Then the glass panel just lifts off. You will see the mechanism and be able to lube up those cogs ... With the glass off check its metal frame for rust and treat it.

Hi Ourlander -
If you have Aircon - then simply make sure the sunroof (yuk!) is fully closed - the - remove the wiring from the back of the switch hence disabling any attempt to open it.
Keep the shade closed and just ignore it ;)
If you don't have A/C then - well - open another window - it is a major PITA job to do and (IMHO) totally not worth the effort.
Anyway mate - hope you get it sorted to your satisfaction . - each to their own et al...

Cheers
Joe

The trouble is pal it wont close. Seems the one side is not working.

you cable on the side has probably broke do not keep the motor running or you will strip the cogs on the main motor wheel which can be replaced do a search pn here it has all been done before including how to replace that cog

That sounds familiar! When I bought my Freelander the sunroof was the only thing that didn't work. The PO said it stuck open and he had trouble getting it closed.
Currently all that happens when you press the switch is the awful stripped cog noise. I have seen the repair kits online. The price is right but I don't see any cables in the kit, just lots of plastic bits and replacement cogs.
At least mine is closed and watertight!

if you have the cog noise then you need to get a new metal cog of ebay as I did they are about £6 and somewhere on here is how to do it if not I can re put them on but before all that all the cables need to be ok
