the otherday the sunroof would not shut and just clicked as if the gearing had broken, the manual over ride with a screwdriver closed it no problem, is it a simple replacment of the sunroof motor or is it more serious?

Yet another Hippo owner falls fowl of the dodgy sunroof issue. When did you last oil the thing? All moving parts to be oilled regularly. As you managed to drive it shut manually it sounds like its not fatally damaged but possibly siezed. Try some oil first.

never oiled it since we have owned it the last 18 months. dont use it that often as we have A/C but would be nice to have it working, do i just oil/grease up the runners or have to take it apart?

According to Haynes.

If the electric roof operates slowly, or the motor appears to be struggling, first ensure that this is not down to lack of maintenance - all the moving parts and slides should be regularly lubricated with light oil (your land rover dealer will be able to advise on a suitable product). The sunroof motor draws quite a heavy current - a battery which is low on charge may struggle to open the roof.

...

The motor incorporates an automatic cut-out facility, which cuts the motor if the sun roof encounters an obstruction - the motor may therefore cur out if the mechanism is partially siezed.

Check all this first as the next step is to take the unit out, and that means taking the head lining down which is no small job.

I hope this helps.
