Sump help please

I recently purchased a 2010 Freelander 2 S TD4 E 2.2

I noticed spots of oil on the drive and checked under the car, the source of the oil seems to be that the actual sump is rusted through at the front.

Is this a common issue ?
Landrover quoted £300.19 for a replacement part, the cheapest I can see online is £205 on ebay
The part number i am looking at is LR001246
I presume there will be a gasket as well?

Before i spend £200+ on ebay I was hoping someone could confirm if I should be buying a separate gasket and if I am looking at the right part and price.
 
Hi Gavin.
Double check that the sump as in fact rusted through give it a scrap slowly if so here is one for you below, also link for a new gasket.

The sumps can corrode over time which is poor in my opinion I had to treat mine, it was treated with rust inhibitor then sprayed with black metal paint, no photo's I am afraid Arctic.

Thanks for the reply, I can see an actual hole in it now that I have cleaned it up so it is definately the culprit.
Is there a way to be sure on the part number ? neither of the numbers on the link match the one I was looking at but it looks to same as the LR001246

The only thing I can suggest is give them a ring I am sure they will confirm it with you. but it looks to be for a FL2 TD4 I have googled it with the LR115654 & it seems the same
 
Pop your numberplate into 1stchoice.co.uk and request a scrapper sump - it’s like Gocompare for scrapyards. You might get a nice clean one from down south.
 
Interesting, googling LR115654 does bring up listings for Freelander 2.2 sumps/"pans". However, non of the normal LR suppliers are listed.

Googling LR001246 brings up the normal crew.... LRDirect, John Craddock, Famous Four, Advanced Factors etc. I wouldn't mind betting LR115654 was superceeded by LR001246 (maybe cos it was made of cheese!).

Those gaskets listed above are for the 6cyl petrol engine. There doesn't appear to be a gasket for the diesel, presumably RTV sealant is used - but I'd check further.
 
My sump had a small amount of surface rust at the front, but I treated it while I was changing the piston.

There's no gasket, but a special sealant instead.
It's called Three Bond as is very important that you don't breathe the fumes in while doing the job. Unfortunately it's about the only sealant that works correctly in this application, so you have to take the precautions listed on the box.
 
These oil pans are still not widely available ? why is that does anyone know, does the Evoque pan fit anyone know that please.
