With snow on its way I want to take the 22's off and fit the 'winter wheels' on BUT.....

THE MINEFIELD THAT IS 'WHERE TO JACK'

I have trawled many threads looking for a definitive answer as to where is best to jack the L322 up in order to change my wheels over but there seems to be so many different answers.

I have a good quality trolly jack specifically for 4x4's so what are the points I need to use to jack the car?

Also I have read leaving the door open will deactivate the suspension so is this also correct?

Any pics would be even better! lol

THANK YOU

Not sure about the L322 but on my P38 I normally use the diff housing. Its more than strong enough to hold the weight. Just don't use one of those little halford trolley jacks that have a tiny cup in case it slips off.

Theres a jacking point on the front of the sill & one on the rear of the sill, they are big plastic rectangle shaped, if you have different sill finishers on than standard, then there should be little doors to get to them. DO NOT JACK UNDER THE DIFF on a L322. You can also jack under the subframe mounts. Believe me I have worked on hundreds of them over the years.

you are supposed to select low range, and close the door, lock if you wish, but hit the lock button twice so as to disable the tilt mechanism. page 235 of the owners handbook

Because its not strong enough to hold the weight of the car. There are only a few bolts holding it to the subframe. It would be like picking your mate up by his balls. Also its not safe at all, any jacking plate that will fit through the exhaust pipes to go under the diff. wont be big enough. Diffs aren't made for jacking.

Thanks for the explanation Planny. I have never looked under an L322 and I also forgot it was basically a monocoque construction car. Good info to have in the back of my mind - you never know when it might come in handy.

yes , thats bloody good advice, not looked under mine yet, been too cold since i got her the other day.. wheels are coming off, got a squeaky brake pad.. so doesnt suit it
