Subwoofer failure?

Subwoofer? This is a aftermarket job right? Might be worth checking the possitive wire for a fuse, there is usually one inline somwhere.

I have a 1998 4.6 and mine is a factory jobbie above the CD player in the boot. I've noticed there is a black box on top which I'm assuming is a small amp, maybe its gone?

You could connect an old speaker to the wires to check if its the amp/sub or head unit.

i have a 1998 4.6 HSE, where is my factory fitted subwoofer? :( I want one.

i think it would be unlikedly the speeker itself has failed, wiring is more likedly. There should be quite a fiew wires from the head unit to the amp; signal sender wires, and an on/off wire which usualy shares the same signal as the antenna up/down that most cars have. There will also be a possitive and negative power suply to the amp. i think thats all of them, i may be mistaken.

Has it just stoped working or never worked? Maybe somthing in the sterio setup to activate it.

If it is the sub i have a factory Karmen on for sale.

Got no need for it got 2 x 15' Vibe subs already. :mil88:

Sorry jus liked the smiley!:D

The sub is sold as a complete assembly but you can infact open it up and extract the bass driver (speaker). On mine the foam surround (that suspends the cone) had disintegrated away. Took it to a hifi repair place (not ICE place) and they replaced the foam, no fuss. Popped it back in and hey presto. Now if I were extremely picky I might say the timbre of the bass has changed slightly, might have something to do with different response / rebound rate of the new foam material but its also probably no more than if you buy a brand new sub. No two speakers are ever ever ever identical. And in a week or so I 'tuned' in to the new sound and can't tell the difference anymore.
