Evening all,
Was told today by garage that one of my rear sub frame mounts is broken inside chassis. They were reluctant to say which one, think he was hopping to get a job out of it. But I am a welder/fabricator so will do it myself in my workshop. so question is before I dismantle sub frame any tips that I should be aware of and any knowledge on which one/side is common on them how straight forward is it its a 99 2ltd diesel l-series engine if that makes any difference.

cheers in advance

usually the off side rear for some reason I did mine on my old one ,you can get a repair kit but I just put the bolt back in and pulled it down so it was level with the chassis and welded it up. just drop the whole unit 4 bolts but I put chocks under the body because it can and does move as it is fastened to nothing ,you will need to torque the bolts back up to 190 nm or 140lds

As Teddy says.
Offside rear common.
I cut a hole in the floor and welded a plate inside the chassis rail.
Good strong job, plus you can be liberal with the waxoil.

Muppets before had tried cutting a slot in the side of the rail itself and putting a couple of blobs of weld in. Not very good access.
Hole in the floor sounds drastic but the access is good and with your welding skills is a simple job.

I did the same as wedley 2000,about 4 years ago , cut the boot floor on top of the chassis there is a inspection hole above the bolt so you can get the mig torch in. Welded in a plate around the captive nut ,I found it easier than working from the underside.

did mine the other month. Go ugly early. Unbolt subframe, cut hole in floor along the line of the chassis rail. I made mine nice and big to get my fat hands in. I made a rectanular plate with a hole in the middle so the "loose" captive nut would still be loose. Weld around edges of plate, Weld a plate over the hole you have made, bit of seam sealer and paint jobs a good un.

I got a few piccies if needed
