Hi To All

I am a Landyzone virgin, so be gentle.

I have just bought a second hand 1999 TD5 defender. Overall, I like the Landy, although I do miss the grunt from my old 200TDi.

I live down a very rough dirt track in Southern Spain. When crawling along the engine seems very 'jerky'. It is almost as though I am continously tapping the accelerator. Almost like a kangarooing action.
I have also noticed that in the upper fifth of the rev range, and particularly in 3rd gear, then the engine stutters again, in a similar way to when I am crawling.
I mentioned this to Simmonites in Bradford just after I bought the vehicle. and a mechanic there said it could be oil that has dripped onto the injector loom???
I am not a mechanic hence this post.
Many Thanks.

:welcome2: to landyzone,

what gear are you in when crawling? Try going the next gear up and at tickover. This will reduce the kangarooing.

If you have a similar stutter at the top of the rev range I rekon your turbo wastegate is a bit sticky. Try freeing it off with some penetrating oil and a pair of mole/vice grips.

Yip welcome to the Zone. I second the possibility of it being a over/underboost problem caused by incorrect wastegate functioning. I had the same symptoms and adjusting wastegate actuator and turbo boost fixed it. Good luck.
