Hi all, I've got a problem getting the disco in reverse gear, its not the gearbox its the actual gear lever clamp hitting the plate that's riveter on.
The car has a 2 inch body lift so don't know if this is a common problem with a lift or not, I'm in the process of changing the bias plate so do I just trim a bit of the plate away while its all apart

Yeah this happens. Take the gearstick gaiter off, the plastic base included. Then take a stanley knife to the rubber gaiter and slit it right the way down.

Only other option is a short shifter (reduces the actual movement needed to engauge the gears, NOT BY SHORTENING THE GEAR STICK)

Since I have done this, the problem has been massively reduced. You may also need to trim the plastic on the centre console around the gearstick too.

Thanks for that Simon, that explains why the rubber gaiter was already split right down the middle but mine hits the metal work before I've even riveted the metal ring back on.
I've cut the metal work back about an inch and bent it down rather then cut it right off and this has made getting reverse gear easier now, just need to try and get it all back together and see what else needs a trim, plastic clip on the bottom of the gaiter for sure.

Not a bad idea just bending it out the way. As for the gaitor, I just took mine off and stuffed a scarf around the gear stick to drone the noise out :D
