Hi, I was trying to remove the top half of my window on my 300 tdi to get at the lock mechanism. Long story short, I stripped the T30 torx bolt at the top of the door panel. Any ideas or tips on how to remove and what to replace it with?

Thanks in advance guys, John

Hi John,

You should be able to tap in a socket mounted 4mm or 4.5mm allen key...This should allow you to remove the torx head bolt....Then you can just replace it with a standard 8mm thread bolt fitted with a flat washer.

hope this helps

Dave

Thanks for the quick reply, I have tried to hammer an allen bit in but no success, also tried to hammer a socket over the top but its a rounded tapered bolt head. Also just tried cutting a line across the top and using a large flathead screwdriver. Maybe just get the drill out, lol.

Thanks again, John

If you have a sharp centre pop/punch.....centre pop the side of the bolt head and then use a sharp cold chisel to crack the bolt in an anti clockwise direction

Irwin easy outs are good have got me out of trouble many times - they basically work by being left hand screw so you tighten it turns the screw head in opposite direction thus undoing it.
Failing that weld a nut to the head and remove it that way

Weld a nut to it that will work as the heat helps it to move.
Laurie.

I ended up grinding two flat edges and attacking it with big pliers. The wee nut was rusted in tight as you like.

Now to get on with the door lock springs.

Thanks guys, John
