Stripped threads....

I was replqcing one of the stup axles on my RRC. One of the bolts attaching it to the swivel housing had no threads on it when I took it out and it seems to have stripped the threads from inside the hole too.
Has anyone got any experience of re-tapping a hole like this? Any help appreciated.

Is there enough clearance just for a nut and bolt?

Tape next size bigger and buy a new bolt
