Hi

My 2002 P38 windows only work after the car has been running for 10 minutes or so.

I cant see it being a dodgy connection as its very consistent, get to the motorway in the morning run to work and they start working everytime. been like that for 2 weeks now

Any ideas? why this would be

Thanks

Wet carpets in the drivers footwell is one possibility, affecting connections to the BECM. Is it all windows? Or just drivers? Could also be the Centre switch pack, if all windows are affected, see if you can operate the rears from the door switches.

Possibly something thats temperature related rather than time
With the ultra low temperature recently it's showing up a poor conection somewere
That is assuming the glass isn't frozen closed and takes a few minutes to melt enough for them to brake the ice bond

Iced up window mechanisms is a good point. Only ever open mine to pay tolls LOL:rolleyes:

Thanks for the replys

For info they are not iced up just tried again in the rain, left running on drive for 20 mins and hey presto they start working rear switches don't work either, very strange they just start after a while.

Carpet is slightly damp but not wet as such

Will check connections on becm and update

If the carpet is damp around the BECM, you will end up in big trouble as condensation kills it and corrodes the connectors. Always run the aircon to dry the interior and check for blocked/leaking pollen filters & housings, blocked aircon drains and leaking O rings.

Hi Data
Thanks for the Info

Well I took off all the trim and looked at the connectors, removed and all look ok not corrosion all shiny pins etc, and looking at what each pin does the windows run from various connections and all other functions and switches work, no other errors

If I hook up may nanocom, and use the functions in the becm windows menu, all windows go up and down, just nothing from the switches, so I am presuming wiring ok from becm to windows etc

I think it must be the switch pack, not got another to hand so I am going have to order one.

What you Guys think?

Switch packs are a common failure item, you can try washing the switches out with contact cleaner (NOT WD40!) and if you are handy, you can look inside for defective solder joints.
Could still be the connections from the switch pack to the BECM as you have damp carpets.
