HI Guys,

This is my first post, but have been searching all the posts for someone with the same strange fault as I am having with my 2001 p38. I hope someone can help and point me in the right direction.
The EAS started to play up last year but the fault is now becoming more frequent.
THE FAULT : When driving around (highways) it will raise to high on its own, even if I have the inhibit switch on. Pressing lower will sometimes bring it back down, but more common the normal level led will flash but the high ride led remains on. (eventually it will reset to normal ride)
It does seem to like going to the high setting when it feels like it, and stay there !!... even on the motorway !!
I did have two occasions in the summer, when I got the hard fault (35mph etc..) after I had pressed the down a number of times with frustration.
I read the fault code and reset with the free software and cable. (fault reported was RL valve stuck closed). reset no problem...
Has anyone had this problem, I have read that the valve stuck closed error is not always the actual fault.
Any advise welcome.... just need to know where to start..

May be worth renewing the 'o-ring' seals in the valve block, it's not a huge task. You'll find kits on ebay. I did mine a couple of years back, took a couple of hours and made a big difference.

RL valve stuck closed is likely to be the Rear Left height sensor giving erratic readings. When the ECU commands a movement of the suspension, it expects to get a change of value back from the height sensors. If it does not, it assumes the valve has not operated. Check the sensor connector for water ingress and corrosion and maybe replace the sensor if it recurs. Random height change to wading height can also be the driver pack, it's worth parting and remaking the connectors in the EAS box a few times especially the one under the valve block:)
