I've got a similar problem with my 90, It's fine up to 50mph then the noise starts to get louder and louder (4th and 5th gear only), very similar noise to what you're talking about. Doing some testing this morning it disappears when I take my foot of the accellerator or dip the clutch. Could it be the release bearing on mine too then? Am I guessing correctly that it'll be a bugger to change?

Mine hasn't done it for 3 days now 
which is good, but l'm just waiting for it to start again all the time. There is a little heat sheild which l read about that can make a noise, l did have a mess about with that, but that seems to easy.

l'm not sure where it was now, you'll see it if you get under there, its only a little thing and l can't see how it would make that much noise. The only other thing l done was to pull some cables about on top of the gearbox to make sure everthing was tight and gave the handbrake drum a bash, when/if the noise comes back, l'll do the same again and see what happens.
