Strange noise?

When i turn steering wheel i hear a knock, i thought it was worn ujs on steering column but after giving everything the once over it seems to be comming from under the plastic cowling under steering wheel, when i turn wheel something is hitting the cowling, any ideas whats making noise?
I will check tomorrow evening when i get in from work but would appreciate any words of wisdom given

The back of the steering wheel perhaps? What year is your motor and what steering wheel have you got? Reason I'm asking is that mine still has the steering shaft for the old hard plastic 4 spoke wheel and had some silly wee aftermarket wheel fitted when I bought it. I put a steering wheel from a 1993 fender on it but because I didn't change the shaft (yes I made it fit, don't ask how) the steering wheel sits further back so if I leave the plastic cowling on the wheel catches it when I'm turning

how did you make it fit?

There is something moving when i turn steering wheel under the cowling, its easy enough to take off and look i think just never got the time tonight, really doing my tits in though

Tightened the nut against it lol that's pretty much it. The splined part of the shaft is too narrow for the wheel so it just sits over it. Will change the shaft and fit the cowling at some point but its not priority
