strange noise when turning right

sorry if there has been a post in the past about this

i have a 2007 freelander 2. 3.2ltr auto 75000 miles.

there seems to have a strange vibration/humming niose when i turn right on roundabouts

i have no idea what can be causing it and i want to get it fixed while i still have my warranty that i paid for.

any ideas

Have you ever had the steering rack changed?
I know there was a problem with some racks having poor build quality and welding spatter would clog up the power steering filter eventually making the rack u/s.
I would have thought you would get the noise left or right if it was this though.

Theres not many of us on here that have the freelander 2, but someone may have a better idea.

no i only bought the car in november,

and the noise is only when i turn right not left i find it very strange.

my local landrover garage wants £80 for a basic look at it and then they want 250 per hour for work carried out.

Just a thought. What are the break pads like. If they are right down it could be the metal on the pad's touching the disk when you go around the roundabout.

Sounds like a wheel bearing to me. I have same issue with my 08 FL2 2.2 TD4s. From the opposite lock. I need a new wheel bearing, drivers side front.
You need to replace the front hub with bearing. Part around £150 + fitting. I'm having a local independent change mine for £220 all in. I stay well away from the dealers. My used select warranty from Land Rover does not cover wheel bearings. Unless it would be deemed to be an MOT failure, which it is not. As I have jacked the landy up & check wheel for play, none there. Noise only occurs mainly when driving over 30 mph when turning left. Rumble type noise.
If I were you, I'd check your warranties small print to see if wheel bearings would be covered.
My Land Rover dealer wanted £120 to take a look, to tell me that their warranty did not cover it. I rang warranty company first to see if it was covered, which it was not.
To be honest I've found Land Rovers used warranty to be a total waste of time. Had 5 faults over 6 months with my FL2, none covered under warranty. The wheel bearing being the most expensive fix.

my i bought the car from car world in peterborough. on finance and paid a extra £800 for a 1 year warranty as a friend of mine had a gearbox explode on is range rover 02 plate. i think it covers wheel bearings i will check that as well thank you. it sees to have the same symptoms of that strange rumble noise that you can feel though the pedals.

I had 6 months select used warranty (just ran out), which does not cover wheel bearings.
Yes you would be able to hear it & feel the vibration through the brake pedals. Could possibly be something else, but does sound similar to the issue I'm experiencing.
I also have land Rover MOT warranty (£750 per claim), again due to no play on the bearing. Is not covered. Not that I shall be taking it to Land Rover for an MOT:lol:Also in the event of an MOT warranty claim, we have to pay the first £50 of any claim.

HI,
In the work shop to check things like this we jack up the wheel, top to bottom movement usually means wheel bearing, side to side movement can mean track rod end. when you jack the wheel up spin it if its the bearing you will hear it rumble. we did have a chap once who had gone down a farm track picked up a branch that rubbed when they turned a certain way.

Thanks for posting the link. Alot of steering rack/pump issues with the FL2:eek:Mine does sound like the bearing, I hope. There's deff no play there though. Bought a high lift trolley jack to check it & rest of my brakes whilst I was on.
 
hi every one thanks for the suggestions.
its been a bit of a crappy week.
i finally managed the get the warranty details and they agreed to pay for any repairs as-long as i pay to get it diagnosed. so i booked it in at a main land rover dealer (why not if the warranty company paying) agreed the £70 charge to find the fault.
well i got a call this morning saying they have had a look and can not find the fault.
but , your going to love this, i will still have to pay £70 for them to say "duno".
i haven't payed or picked up the car yet, but what can i do?

a bit of both. they said they heard it once and then it went.
they have (apparently) looked at all the mechanical bits of it.
and can not find any faults with the car.

but the noise was getting worse until 2 days ago.
i don't know what do do now.

do i leave it until something goes bang to find the fault or take it somewhere else to get a second option but then i would have to pay for the repair.

Sounds like it may have been just grit inbetween the pads and the disc. That can sound like the wheels about to fall off :D

it used to be all the time
but 2 days ago it change to being intermittent
but its still there.

also the noise/vibration is only when i turn right???
