Hi all.
For a while now I have had a tinny kind of noise coming from under my motor, p38 2.5 auto...it's mainly on tickover if you press the revs a little it go's. sounds like exhaust touching the chassis kind of noise,at 1st I thought flex plate but me and my mechanic mate had it on the ramps yesterday and checked inspection plate, but could not see anything obvious.the noise/vibration though seems to be coming from transfer sump? If I pull down on rear prop it gets quieter? Seems to be in handbrake drum?? Any ideas peeps?? It was only on ramps for a quick nose as my mate is busy for next few days..
Regards

Look at the heat shields above the exhaust, the clips rusted away on my and it rattled like mad a certain revs. couldn't get the retaining clips here so fixed usin a washer and the innards of an electrical connector (barrier strip choccy bloc call it what you will) clamped onto the pin.

This defo not heatsheilds data
it seems like it is coming from the transfer box, its a loud tinny noise and a vibration, which is why i 1st thought flex plate? when we looked at flex plate through inspection plate all seemed fine in there! nothing bent or looked loose! but when i got toward the transfer sump the noise etc came from there the loudest and when i hung onto the rear prop hanging all my weight off it it got quieter? is there anything on that side that could cause this or could it still be flex plate/torque converter??
regards

i had an issue like this, turned out to be the exhaust vibrating and hitting the cross member

Thats the 1st thing i checked and nothing loose or touching anywhere!
the sound go's around 1000 rpm which is why i said i thought flex plate as i know they can be a pain! and again if i pull down as hard as i can on rear prop by the doughnut it gets quieter!
flex plate looked fine through the hole with no bent areas or cracks or loose bolts.. could the torque converter transmit this noise?? it does judder "sometimes" as i am coming toward a standstill as though the car wants to keep driving so to speak while i am slowing it down?? apart from that every now and again and this constant rattle/vibration it drives ok..just want to see if anyone else had had the same before stripping it down
