My 300tdi disco has developed a strange noise sounds like a chain being dragged underneath. it only does it on acceleration and when going up hills. it stops when you ease of the throttle and when you engage the clutch. Checked props and replaced front uj as the one nearest the transfer box had worn. any ideas where to check next?

Regards
Paul

remove one prop at a time see if it alters while driving in diff lock ,front prop off and better look at front axle ,rear off and better look at rear axle no different check t/box and gear box, dropping a capfull of oil out of units can help with diagnoses

I had a similar problem. It was a bearing in the diff. Just needed a diff service kit and replaced the bearings in the diff. Although it did sound like more of a whining grinding. Good luck...

found what is causing it just got to figure out how to repair it. it is a alloy disc just behind were the front prop joins the transfer box.
