Freelander 1 Strange noise and white smoke now sweet smell

Happy new Year All,

Anyone heard that strange noise in the background . When usually going to
the garage they come up with all ok, so was wondering if anyone of you knows what that background noise is?
Not sure if it's related, but it smells very sweet, long time white smoke which clears up, but the smell not. The coolant level remains the same.

Check the crank pulley for flecks of silver as the rubber breaks down the the pulley rattles.

Thanks, that was changed two years ago for Cordeco, but will check.

If you remove the serpentine belt and air con belt if fitted that will eliminate all the ancillaries like alternator, water pump etc.
It also reduces load on the crank pulley and will affect the noise if it is that too.

The white smoke is over fuelling. Try some injector cleaner like Comma Diesel Magic.

They were all changed last year, but will go for some. Aldi had Redex in double pack some days ago, thanks.
Read somewhere that sweet would be coolant. Could that also have to do with overfilling engine oil, when changed, because these blokes from the garage did it again. Would prefer to drain it a bit as it's a bit over upper line again.
