I'm totally confused! I had a few issues with my n/s rear lights:- no reverse light and intermittent brake light, indicator and fog light very faint. All o/s rear lights working fine except fog light.
Reverse light was both bulbs blown, now replaced.
Brake light had been bodged with a twin filament bulb (21/5w stop/tail bulb) and was making intermittent contact to earth. Bulb replaced with correct single filament one and working fine.
Indicator and fog were down to a corroded earth pin and blown fuse on fogs. Cleaned the earth pin and replaced fuse and now both working fine.

Now for the strange bit, after replacing the fuse for the fog lights the n/s tail light and reverse light have swapped functions!! Lights on and n/s reverse light comes on instead of tail, lights off and into reverse and the tail light is on but not reverse light?
Tow bar and electrics fitted but I've checked them and they seem fine.

Any ideas? It's a 98 D2 TD5, ex police.

Check the wiring of plug to unit ... it may have had blues spliced in and who knows what ...
or the unit was changed at some time, but not all are 'plug and play' ... it might be just a pinched wire that was bodged ...
have a rummage in the rear cluster ... oo er missus .... compare to other side if that works fine ...
Disconnect the towbar wiring to isolate that from body wiring fault ...
