Hi,
Thought I'd share this to give people a laugh.
Recently acquired a 51 Disco 2 Es.
All was going well, till yesterday on the way to work it started spluttering, then completely conked out at the side of the road.
After running two of the fuel pumping cycles, it came back to life and drove home fine.
When I got home, drained the fuel filter but diesel was clean and good.
I then pulled the fuel pump out the tank and got a shock.
The pump was completly covered in partially dissolved kitchen roll.
Pulled the pump apart and all of the pre-filters were completely clogged with fibrous paste.
After finding the state of the pump, I then turned my attention to the tank. Unfortunately, having just filled it up days ago, I had to drain around 3/4 of a tank into a water butt (New clean one).
After leaving it a few minutes, a thick layer floated to the top about an inch thick.
After much flushing and pumping, I finally got everything clean and back together.
The previous owner told me changed the fuel pump recently, so I can only presume he dropped a whole roll of it in the tank, although I never found the cardboard tube!
Can't believe it managed to run so well, but suppose it's nice to know that even Disco 2's are over engineered enough to cope with things.
