I'm off in a few weeks to start my flying and I'm going to need to put my Land Rover into storage for 18 months.

I have either a new container or a barn to put it in.

What preparations should I make if its going to be stood for 18 months?

I will probably be able to start it up every 6 months or so to get the oil moving about.

I`d take the Barn if it is really dry. every fluid filled up to maximum, Take some weight off the wheels by jacking it up. Everything lubed, every rubber Sealant. put grease on the Swivel balls to prevent rust. give the engine a good cover with anything like WD 40, also remove the spark plups and spray some oil inside the cylinders, then just loosly refit the plugs. Disconnect the batterie and if possible keep it charged.

And Ithink there are a thousand other points to think about:

Why would you choose the barn over the container?

As I said the container is brand new, so it wont have any leaks or dampness etc.

It will also be a more secure, some times people come to the farm in a white rusty van asking for "scrap metal" if you get me.....

I thought of putting some old engine oil in the spray gun and spraying the chassis before it goes in.

I will grease any thing shiny and make sure that all fluids are topped up as you said.

I shall put it on axle stands to the chassis to relieve weight from the wheels and suspension.

I shall ask a friend to go and start her every now and again to keep the oil around the engine.

Old Land Rovers stand for years in open fields and seem to run with a little tinkering... so I'm sure it will be fine, however she is my baby.....

I plan on a chassis up rebuild when I return; galvo chassis, galvo bulk head, 3.9 efi v8, recon g-box etc. however funds may not be available straight away and I would like to drive her whilst I wait.

My idea about the barn was because of the temperature changes (sorry, easy english)
won`t that cause humidity.
And the next point is that it is easier for your friend to start it frequently and he wont die because of the fumes.
