My E reg land rover 90 was stolen friday night in stalybridge. I left it outside my friends house with discklock fitted and isolater key removed. came back around 4;30 am after a night out in manchester. i drove past it in a taxi the theives had moved it round the crescent to the main road and were in the process of getting it ready to be towed away.

Hope you and your mates stopped and showed them, that touching someone's
Land Rover makes your Nose Bleed !

They had dropped my steering off the steering box to enable to turn the wheels by hand and ripped my seats and cubby box out to remove the propshaft from above knowing what i know now the only way to really secure it is weld the nut on the top of the steering ball joint. they also tipped acid over my nice new leather heated seats. the police were as usefull as a chocolate fire guard.

Bastards, sounds like they must be regular defender thieves, did any of them get apprehended?
Don't understand the acid on the seats, they are valuable items and destroying them would not be to their advantage.

Wonder if they did the seats to check for a tracker or if it was spilt as they may have put it in a lock.

By the time I mannaged to stop the taxi I was 50 yard away. I should of got closer before I shouted as gave him time to run. The police didn't do anything other than be a pain in the arse. They were wanting to take it away which would have been an insurance claim to get it back. They think the acid was either for cleaning down in case they got inturrupted or to throw at who ever caught them. At least I got it back without them trashing it just had to bolt it back together

Sounds like you got really lucky against some prepared pro Landy thives. They had probably scouted yours out beforehand and came prepared.

The cops probably wanted to recover it because Crime Scene Investigators will normally only examine a vehicle undercover in a secure location, ie the contracted recovery operators warehouse. This lot sound like they would have been gloved and face covered though so CSI would be pretty redundant.
Your best bet would be if they found blood from a scuffed knuckle or head bang. Lord knows I've had plenty of them removing propshafts.

I park mine on the high side of a narrow driveway with my wife's car behind it, steering locked on full, with Disklok isolator tracker etc all deployed.

It makes it a pretty tough job to get out and means if it were attacked like yours they would have to steer hers and mine (assuming both vehicles were steerable) backwards then down hill. Very, very difficult to do I've tried it.

Of course it's nigh on impossible to completely guard against theft, especially if they are prepared to tow or truck it away.
