all the crimes in the uk and they target the most violent and horrific offenders in the land in order to get them serverly punished,,,,,,,,,,,, no silly not the muderers, granny beaters and the terrorist,,,, oh no its the motorist !!!

the crime comes to the cops and there aint no getting out of it !
oity they dont put the same resorces into the real offenders in the uk !

It's the easiest way to gain some income ... but admittedly it has been a hotspot for LR theft lately. They are trying to be helpful with the added bonus of lining their coffer's, just a normal day for plod ain't it?

I honestly dont think the police can win here!

If your Land Rover was stolen off you, you'd be praising the police to no end, for stopping Land Rovers and checking their Legitimacy.

If you're running red diesel, or if your car isnt 100% legal, thats your fault, you cant have a go at the police for catching you.

As for, "havent you got better things to do, like catch rapists and murderers"

No, the roads policing unit dont have better things to do. They police roads, not look for rapists. The other thing they could be doing is setting up speed cameras, but you probably all hate them even more...

I live on the edge of a country road in Scotland. I have helped save lives of people who have been speeding up the road and hit a tree at the side of the road having lost control. I see motorbikes doing 100mph+ up the road. As a result I would love to see a speed camera here. If you were a parent of a child living here I'm sure you'd agree. The police have a job to do, unless you have a good reason to hate them, give them a chance. They have found 5 stolen land rovers - one of these could have been yours, and may now be finding its way back to you...

if the cameras were to save lives then im sure most people would back them, as it is they are used to fill the coffers of the treasury.

if the police were activley helping the citizens of this country to solve crimes im sure most people would back them to the hilt, as it is they are mearley out for easy box ticking targets that make it look like they are doing a great job in detecting and punishing crimes.

i find it odd the confidence and trust in the police is at an historic low, not bad to say they are out there helping and protecting the public and bringing offenders to book !!!

im sure you have never had the misfortune of being burgled, you vehicle stolen ect and the copper on the end of the phone tell you they are to busy to send any one out , heres your crime refference number.

maybe if the 10 to 15 coppers stood at the road side hiding behind hedges with speed guns and loitering up the road in cars watching for drive by offences and filling in forms were actually out policing for the car thieves, house burglars, muggers and the rest of the dregs of society and bringing them to book maybe the public opinion of the police would change.

as it is i will stick my neck out and say you are in the minority of police lovers who think they do a great job :)

Whereas in this case, the police are actively out checking vehicles, to ensure that they aren't stolen.

I understand that in 90% of cases, the police do absolutely bugger all - but the one time they are out looking for stolen vehicles, people start asking "havent they got something better to do?!"

What will it take for us to be happy. the police force is never going to be perfect, to do that would need masses of manpower.

Imagine you got a phone call today from police telling you that they were stoppingh vehicles as Defenders are getting stolen more frequently- as it happened they had recovered your car...... I doubt very much that your response would be
"thats all well and good officer, but havent you got more important things to be doing"

As for speed cameras - i agree that most of them are purely money-spinners, the mobile ones even more so, as they arent predictable but I would be more than happy for the police to install a permanent camera, not to make money, but purely to enforce the speed limit, on a busy road, which has seen its share of accidents. A death is probably what it takes before they'll do anything.

just think of it as every person who dies or is crippled because they were doing double the speed limit and managed to pick a fight with a tree is one less person who will be speeding past your house
the bikes have started appearing on the roads round by me now due to the sunny weather - ill be fitting some feck off bullbars on the disco soon then

im sure the chief of police said today lads wer are going to nail those b*stards out pinching land rovers and maybe recover a few stolen ones in the process, we need to help the land rover owners to feel safe owning such a vehicle.
check them engine numbers and chassis numbers and give out advice to land rover owners, off ya go lads lets get the bad guys :)

then again im sure it went something like this :

ok lads the insurance companies are up in arms at the land rover thefts and we are being pressed to look as if we care. so today lads we are going mob handed on this road for the next 8 hours to try and look like we are activley out there protecting the land rover owners.

today we have the ministry of transport and dvla along with the benefits agency and the vehicle inspectorate and to boot half a dozen tow trucks because we are hoping to raise some funds through big fines on these land rover drivers.
so lads lets get out there, look tough and make sure every land rover you pull in you find something we can nail the b*stard for !
if they can run a land rover they can pay a huge fine, we need to make up the shortfall in government funding so come on lads look lively, keep thouse eyes peeled and lets get this show on the road :)

brilliant bit of policing and before you ask, yes i aint no fan of them cos they aint here to look after the general public, they are tax raisers occasionally solving a rea crime.
