My Defender 90 was stolen in Farnham Surrey on Jan 24th. When I went to get into it there was just a dry mark on the road. I must have missed the thief by a matter of minutes. But that is not the story here. The story is that the local police found my vehicle within an hour of it being noticed missing. The police were amazing and kept me fully informed with calls text and emails. I was leaving that morning for a weeks holiday so I sorted collection when I got back. I had zero anti theft devices. I am now finishing a complete rebuild and will be using a Skytag tracker and a pedal box. Well done the boys in blue.

That is good news, thanks for the update. Did the police nick anybody for taking it?
Sadly there were no arrests made. It was left in a small car park not 5 miles away. They leave them for a few days to see if a tracker is fitted. If no one recovers the car then they pick it up and it’s gone for good probably. So I was very fortunate and the police were fantastic.

Shame it can't be left there until the scrotes come to get it and then nick 'em!

How come they found it within an hour? Did someone spot it and report it to them or was it a lucky find?

I think the Police had some intelligence. They were asking me some questions about garages that had worked on my Landy recently, especially MOT centres.
Ha ha, I have no problems like that with MY MOT man. He freely admits to wanting to remove all Discoverys from the road. He even jokes that he has a special 2lb hammer for Land Rover MOT tests. He wouldn't like to see them stolen. With him it's a personal thing. HE wants to get rid of them himself. I don't mind because it means I get a thorough test, and I know how much it hurts when he has to pass it, especially last year when it passed without any advisories! Poor guy had to go and sit down in the office with a cup of tea and some of the biscuits I regularly bring around...
He didn't seem to have the same attitude with the TD5 when I took it to him last month. I think it's just D1s he hates.

The air over pressure of swinging a 2lb hammer would see most D1s crumble to dust.

It's getting silly in surrey at the minute,
I stopped at the petrol station on the a24 in beare green today, a chap approached me to say be careful 4 more defenders have been stolen in the capel/newdigate area this week.
