Still not learnt my lesson

Having owned a few landys in the past including a couple of Rangies in the 80s and 90s , I should know better at my age, but I've just acquired an 06 Freelander TD4 with 55K behind her.

Wanted something for dragging around a load of kit through very bad tracks but still of a reasonable size. Couldn't get enthusiastic about any other makes.

Driven about 200 miles in the past few days and very impressed.

Currently waiting for the call to collect it from a full service and just hoping I haven't got to sell a kidney...not this week at least :)

Just like to say thanks to all those that contribute here. I've read thousands of posts over the past few weeks and it really helps to have an understanding of what to expect and what to look out for, even the grief I can expect from those that like to drive the big stuff :). I was able to pre order loads of bits between paying the deposit and collecting, which helps a lot.

Tomorrow I hopefully get time to fit the EGR and synergy kit ;)

See you around

Downgrade? The car I just dumped was an old Beemer 323i :)

Perhaps I didn't make it clear. I haven't owned a Landy in over 9 years.

Offering myself to sacrifice, I really like the car, as much real room inside as the old RRs and I have managed to do 200 miles without chassis bushes, power steering pumps or alternators needing replacing, which seemed to be needed with Rangies in those days if you just turned the key.

By the way, Stratstone were absolutely awefull. Good news was that they didn't find anything I didn't already know, bad news is they didn't do everything asked for and agreed. I couldn't even get them to call me to say if it was ready, I had to walk down to them just before they closed. Absolutely terrible! I actually feel conned!
My worst concern was the whiny auto box, but that has been cured by the oil change I requested.
Just to add to the bad service, they left a note on the seat to praise the fact that they had given it a clean, but it failed to mention that they'd left a load of the old oil in a crevice on the bumper which was immediately attracted to my suit when I checked the levels ? As confidence was shot)

One thing needs updating here though: a new key now costs £240! It is almost cheaper to pay someone to look after my one key :)

You could have had a rangie for the money lol

This coming from a man with a fender with a gearbox in bits and a disco unintentionally foot shorter than it ment to be.

Just cannot help detailing my experience with Stratstone. The L320 failed its mot at a local garage. Under warranty Landrover will pay for mot repairs. Phoned Str-- who said I had to have another mot wth them first. I quoted the handbook but no joy. To cut a long story short I had to phone Landrover Warranty twice and Str-- three times. In the end the Service Manager who Lr Warranty said was waiting for my call would not speak to me. I was on the phone for a total of over one hour before being able to book the car in. In the end dreading taking the car in to them I phoned my local 4x4 garage which took two minutes to have the car repaired even though it will cost me quite a bit more. Str-- have not changed their attitude since I last took a car to them 6 years ago and I will do my best not to go to them again. Brilliant cars but lousy service always.

I have a small oil leak. I knew it and they did notice it. They said that they couldn't diagnose there and then and therefore steam cleaned and I should go back next month. Sensible I suppose, but changing the discs today I noticed that there was still loads of black ( original ) oil so a complete waist of time. Also ( remembering that they should have changed all fluids) they hadn't even topped up windscreen washer, p/ steering or brakes ( last one was a help given that I changed pads and discs)... Appalling!

Went to a BMW dealer today for a crank case breather and they couldn't have been more helpful even though they knew I was buying the part for the Landy.

Anyway, the car just gets better and better... Really pleased with it.

Synergy and EgR fix tomorrow :)
