Freelander 1 stiff gears petrol

Hello again, now I have a weird issue. It hardly goes into gears, hot or cold.
The clutch is quite new, previous owner.
Just fitted a new bracket, old one was fine but anyway.
Slave cylinder is new...

I am guessing an oil change is next but if that is not curing it then what would be left to look at?

Could check the gear linkage.

I put floor mats in my Freelander, but the bite point of the clutch was so low that the extra thickness of the driver's mat was stopping me from getting the clutch all the way to the floor. That stopped me from getting the gears selected properly. I'd check the gear oil level and bleed the clutch hydraulics. Also, probably for the best to have a look at your master cylinder.

These are new but I do suspect a improper job on clutch change. Thanks, not too many things that can be but the gear linkage will be hard to source.

An improper clutch change usually renders a car immobile..

try changing the oil..

Lubricate the arm that is pushed by the slave. They seize up in the bell housing and the guy that changed the clutch probably didn't free it up.

Thank you that is useful will do, the arm does look like it can do a lubrification.

Question what should I use? I do have some camshaft lube, general purpose grease and some for the driveshaft gaiter...

From memory you need to spray whatever release oil you have to get it loosened up, then a few drips of engine oil and the same again every time you do an oil change.

Just a thought, is the plastic cap still on the slave? If not it should be and you would loose a mm or so movement.

"Not lubricating the clutch release pivot can result in the clutch slave support fracturing which then puts pressure on the plastic piston arrangement which then fractures leaving you with no gears. So if you have difficulty selecting gears check under the car while someone operates the clutch pedal. If you see any movement like this then replace the , mounting bracket and/or the master cylinder system and don't forget to lubricate the pivot"

Yep some halfords release spray did it, now goes into gears however clutch pedal is on the floor.
I suspect the master/slave cyl has been affected by this?
Pushes in but won't come back....

Are you sure the slave is still mounted in the holder correctly. They are normally held on with a wish and a prayer

I think so, there is a picture I've posted earlier can you have a look and advise please.

It's hard to see from the photo but are you sure the arm is now free and not just moved to a different position.
It normally takes a bit of brute force to move it back and forward to free it up properly.
If you watch the video I posted earlier and then get someone to operate the clutch for you, you'll see what's happening.

Well was quite easy for me to fit in... I will check in the morning what happens.

Yep the cylinder does not move at all, pedal on the floor. Time for a new one, hopefully will receive tomorrow.

Is the lever springing back properly, It should take a lot of force to move it but it should spring back pushing the slave back in and your pedal back up.
