One of the many things in life that annoys me is rubbish quality gaskets. Here's the original for this doohickey on top of the carb. View attachment 341541
Then here's one of the ones they sent with the refurb kit (both were as bad as each other)

It doesn't even pretend to fit. I could have chopped it about to make it better but it's no good so I had to make new ones.

Not the end of the world I suppose but bloody frustrating when you just think you're going to quickly assemble something. I had a look online to buy new ones but they cost about £5 each. Even if they're a better fit (which they probably aren't) that's still a bit steep. Here's the diaphragm whosname thingy. I really must learn what these bits actually are.

This is the new spring from the refurb kit (top) and the original spring (bottom). Now I appreciate the point of a spring is to be springy but that new one is a much beefier fella than the original. So much so it barely squashes enough to be contained when I put the cover on. Just feels too much to me. I'm going with the original for the time being. What do you think?

Used to make most of my own card gaskets, getting the right gauge card was easy, not sure about now, I also used to rub some wax into the card, but Dad also rubbed grease into his ... not sure which is better but I've not known either to fail ...
