Steve's disco 2 rebuild

Looking good...... keep the pictures coming

Did a bit more to the bumper today, made the ends up that seemed to take forever, must have fitted it about 10 times lol.
Still need to make some ends up where the plastic corner trims are. Also made the middle mounting bracket to use the 2 14mm bolts in the chassis.
Didn't take many pictures while making it, was too busy cutting or grinding.

Pretty much finished the rear bumper today, just need to knock up some recovery lugs and weld in place.
Also mocked up a cardboard template for the front bumper to work out how much metal I will need, so hopefully I can get that cut out and folded up at work if I get time.

Thanks mate, if I had more spare time I would do. Plus I'm not set up properly to build stuff, doing this a bit at work and at my dad's driveway.

Made the recovery lugs at work this week and welded them in today.
Just got a little bit more to do then it's finished at long last ready for powdercoating.
Also cut and folded some 4mm for the front bumper, so will start that next (might get a chance tomorrow).

Rear bumper is now finished, will be sending it to the powder coaters tomorrow, hopefully it will get back to me before next weekend so I can tick that job off the list.
Started on the front bumper aswell today, and as I have a winch in the shed doing nothing I will be fitting that too. Here's how far I got with it today

Think your bumper work is fantastic, would you not do better to send it for galvy?

Back bumper looks very rugged and well made. It'll probably outlast every Disco ever built. Looking forward to seeing them both finished and fitted. No doubt they'll look awesome.

Thanks mate, did think about it but we don't get much stuff galvanised anymore at work, would have saved some money without paying the handling charge the galvanisers screw you for. Think it was about £70 a couple years ago. Plus if it gets chipped it's going to rust anyway

Thanks, that's the idea really, don't want to be making them again lol. I can't wait to get it finished either.

Bumper came back from the powdercoaters today, so managed to get it fitted after work, just need to connect the lights up.
Looks so much better now it's painted

Looks great. Nice finish.

Made some progress on the front bumper today, trimmed the winch tray to the correct size and tack welded it on, bent both ends of the bumper back then cut and drilled the mounting plates which will hopefully get welded on next weekend.













I've also started to make a full roofrack made from aluminium, so if I get a chance next week I will cut and fold the sections up at work
