Hi all, i have fitted a new head unit into my 97 disco, the original one has the plug to power the amp and speakers etc. how can i get around that problem? i don't want to fit a multichanger, just enjoy cd's rather than cassettes!!!

regards, T.

I'm not familiar with Disco's.
However i do no car audio, what problem is it your trying to solve?
you want to run your amp and speakers but dont have the right connectors?

I'm a bit confused as well 200tdi's don't have an amp at all. 300tdi's have a sub woofer in the back door but not an amp?? so D2 & D3's I don't have a clue.

for the 200 just wire it in as per any other car. you can get an iso connector to fit the disco plug, from Halfrauds etc. or cut and solder.

For 300's you can get the connector on ebay or make it your self from a phono connector and 2 wires.

If it's newer than that I int got a clue.

ye, if you take the original head unit out, you have the two euro plugs, power and 4 speakers, but there is also a white plug with six wires, two power and 2 x 2 speakers. in the rear door of the disco there is are two subs with a small power amp, there must be a way of running them without having the original stereo, have you spoken to anyone else who has had to by pass the original wiring??

No i havnt but it should be fairly straight forward.

I think Red answer your question.

You should be able to get a connector on ebay or make one up by cutting and soldering the wires
You will have a Blue wire (remote) coming from the headunit this is probably going to have to connect to one of those powers (the +ve) and then you need a set of phono leads that you cut one end off of and that will be your 2 x 2 speaker connections.

nice one, i've had another thought, i could join the 4 speakers in the car to the front output, use the rears for the sub, use the blue wire as + and just splice the neg, how does that sound??

I recently did this to my 97 disco auto although I didnt have the subwoofer to worry about but you will probably find it difficult to get an adaptor as halfrauds etc seem to think they are a straight swap.

If you had the same system as me you will have found three block connectors supplying power, speakers etc. two aerial cables and a cd changer lead. I dont have a cd changer but the lead was still there and connected for some reason.

The power plug will swap straight over from one stereo to another but thats where the easy bit ended for me. The middle plug (black I think) was completely ignored and had no use. The longer pink plug held all the speaker lives and two black wires which I assumed were earths.

Easiest thing for me to do with the speakers was unplug the amp (in the passenger footwell on the left hand side iirc) and cross check wires http://carstereohelp.net/wireharness_LandRover2.htm and here http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/571535-post2.html

I cut the speaker wires and connected them directly to the stereo with a few lengths of speaker wire and only needed to use one of the two aerial cables.

Hope this helps :)
