I have a defender 90 - 2006 it has got a new after market stereo fitted, my problem is that it keeps coming out of the centre console when accelerating, the clips are bent out enough so it should stop it moving but its not , its almost as if the stereo is to heavy as there no support under neither it inside the console ! has anyone got a fix for this ?

cheers

Should have a DIN cage which the head unit is slotted into. Theres two prongs on the left and right of the cage, pull the headunit out and use a screw driver to push the prongs in more, head unit should slot in and stay then.

hello sorry i dont know how to explain it !
the stereo is fitted properly in a cage which sits in the inner housing its not the stereo & inner housing thats coming out ! , its the outer housing which fits around the stereo & inner housing which is coming out under acceleration, there is a small clip either side ( inside ) that should stop the outer housing coming out !
there alot of empty space under the stereo inside so these small clips are taking all the weight and force pushing it out

hope this makes sense ?

cheers

Ohhhhh that bit!! Just glue it back in place. I think they where designed to be removed so you could fit a blank panel for switches etc...

Mine kept coming out after I did some wiring so just glued it back, or if you want a less permanent solution you could use some bathroom sealant.

There should be a pin on the back of the stereo, with a rubber surround.
This locates in a hole at the back of the dash.
If this is not fitted the stereo will not be secure and will bounce around a bit in its cage, particularly if you go off road.
Many times this is not fitted, it should be on the back of the stereo in the middle.

However it should still not fall out! If it falls out then you probably have the wrong cage. Many aftermarket stereos have a specific cage, and if you fit a universal cage the mounting springs on the stereo will not locate.

Im pretty sure hes on about another bit

See the indented line surrounding the head unit? That also comes out as one piece
