Hi fellow Landy friends, heres my introduction, Im Phil W, a 56 year old construction manager just getting back into Land Rover after a 30 + year break, (I had a series for a couple of years in the earlly 70's). Just bought an old Defender 90 2.5 TD hard top "G" reg 1989 a few months ago with my son Michael, We have started doing it up and we are getting into plenty of off roading and green laneing. So its tooled up with all the gaurds and plates underneath, a snorkell, and just had a 2" lift :) ( got ripped off with the lift by the way cost a mint  ) its much loved and looked after now its with us but also gets spancked a bit on the odd run round Bonsal Quarry near Matlock and other lesser hairaising stuff out in the peak district. We also did the Land Rover fest at Peterborough, and have booked for the LRO Spring Adventure at Driffield in May, Billling in July and Peterborough again next September, If you havnt been to the Land Rover Fest get booked now its great fun thousands of like minded Landy nuts lots to do great atmasphear and great off road facilities.

Now hears where I need your help and some advice please guys.

1) Anybody out there in the north east Derbyshire / south Sheffield area that we could tag alongwith for green laneing and easey off roading.

2) Could you advice me off a any good off roading places round our area of North Derbyshire, Peak District and South Yorkshire ect ect.

3) Now the machanical problem  ; just had a "2" lift and the steering box replaced at a garage, now the steerings wandering badley and seems slack, the guy who did the work seems at a loss to sort it ( I think he may if I take it back, start ripping me off to sort it out) he says it all probably due to the lift and the big 31" Insa Turbo tyres.
I want to get this sorted as its a bit dangerous to drive at prescent, thinking it could be the steering damper ???, hope its something like that that I could takle myself, any advice would be great.

4) Does any one know and can recommend a good Landy repairs garage in my area.

All the best, and if you could answer just one off my list it would be geat to here fron you.

now the steerings wandering badley and seems slack,
bolts holding box to chas, drop arm ball joint,uj on steering linkage,sh*t steering box the list goes on.

Thanks fot that, Will be checking it out at a mates house tommorow, hopefully getting a result and the problems sorted

was the lift on at the same time as tires and steering box? the tires have a pretty aggressive tread pattern and will wonder all over the place. extreme MT's are all like this.

doubt its the lift, unless your UJ's are knackered.

Thanks for that, sound advice, think you are right about the big Insa Turbo 31" tyres I have on, ( may get some BF Goodrich all terains )been up to a mates house this morning he did some adjustment to the steering box and its made it a lot better, I also had the wheels lined and balanced which did no harm. Its still rolling a bit but feels much safer. All the best thanks again
