My Steering box has had a leak for some time now, I have another to refit when I get new seals fitted in it.
There is a slow groaning whining sound when I turn the steering wheel when starting up in the morning, usually gets better as the motor warms up a bit, but can hear it very clearly when turning at very slow speed.
When I say it has a leak it is a very slow leak as the fluid does not seem to go down to much, never had to top it up yet.
Checked today after a few weeks, it looked full but it is level with the bottom line on the stick. Will top it up tomorrow.
Would this small loss of fluid cause the noise or would it be somthing else in the steering system??

OK loosed the bleed niple on top of the box and emptied it, then topped up with new, seems 10 times better now noise just about gone, Steering seems a lot lighter too, so hopfully ive sorted it untill I can get the new box fitted.
Noticed when warmed up the fluid goes a pinky frothy coulor, Is this Normal??
Thanks

I think that's just it purging air from the system, it should settle after a while so keep an eye on the fluid level;)

It is recomended to jack the frontwheels off the ground and turn the steering from lock to lock 3 or 4 times with the engine running. This help purge the system.
