hiya guys

still trying to resolve the problem with the drone i get from the front along with vibration through the steering wheel at 50 mph

i have the wheels rebalanced and were out, redone the wheel alighnment yet again by another compnay and thats ok.

have gone to 4 different garages up to the main dealer.

they have ranged from the ird, vcu, track rod ends, front prop shafts, wheel bearing and bad tyres.

dont know who to belive, as i asked them if its not that they said i will have to go to another thing at more cost which i simply cannot afford

the rear tyres are brand new , bridgestones, the rears which were also bridgestones were put on the front.

when the guy recently done the tracking he tried to move the wheels and there was no play in them and i watched him do it.

any ideas guys as i am going nuts trying to sort this out and simply cannot find whats wrong with the car.

there doesnt seem to be a person who can guarantee and pinpoint the fault, maybe im asking to much but cannot afford to spend 1,000 of pounds

another thought was if i managed to get the car put up on a ramp would i be able to see any tell tail signs etc

thanks again as always and if anyone knows of anyone in the kent area would be very grateful

thanks again

It happened on my TD4, I took it to the garage thinking it was mechanical but it was a duff tyre and went away as soon as it was changed. The tyre looked ok visually but clearly wasn't, try putting the spare on each side and see if it goes away.

hiya

have tried that as well to avail

it started about a month or so after i had the tyres done.

been driving me nuts

i have been toying with the idea of getting the entire rear prop assembley removed and a ird blanking plate fitted

if i done that would it then prove its the rear prop section/ vcu etc or could it be the vcu

just trying to get to the bottom of this and just worried its going to cost me alot of money with no resolvement of the problem

thanks again and any help would be so appreciated

Hi gstuart

I had a similar problem with steering vibration and I tried the same wheel balance etc .
Realised after a while that It was Rev related and not speed related as when I dipped clutch it went off. Even took it up to 70 on a smooth road and dropped it into neutral to feel for vibration , not there any more , back into gear and there goes the vibration but noticed everytime it was at the same revs 2000 -2400 rpm in both 4th and 5th gear it was more noticible . Found out it was no 2 injector it was the engine rocking and transfering through the steering. Those bosch injectors arn't cheep . it's sorted now and back to normal ( till the next one goes ti*s up)
Hope this helps

hiya

im a bit concerned of putting mine into neutral as its an auto.

if i take it up to 90mph or below 50mph there is no vibration or noise.

thought that if it was the rear props etc would i feel it in the back.

as these is no play in the bearings by moving the wheel at the relevent positions could they still be worn

could a front drive shafte uj all of a sudden go.

thanks again guys banging my head against the wall.just trying to think that ive got to start somewhere and thought if you thought it would be a good idea to get the wheel bearing replaced.

if so can i do just the front or is it better to do front and back

really appreciate your help thanks guys

hiya guys

well i think i deserve a kick in the gonads, as i rechecked the tyre pressure today with another pressure gauge and it was showing 34 psi all round when indeed the gauge was saying 30 psi, faulty gauge, reduced them all to 28psi and the noise seems abit better and the vibration through the wheel isnt so evident.

so in this case does this prove it could only be the tyres or can it be alot of other things, but its been fine with these tyre arrangement for nearly 2 months before any noise /vibration came to light.

thanks so much again guys for helping me with this and keeping my sanity
