Hi I have a 99(V) XEI Hardback with R770 head unit and 6 disc changer under seat.

what do I need to connect my new steering wheel controls to my R770 head unit?

I dont have my wheel yet but just trying to anticipate when it arrives any extras I'll need to get these extra controls functioning.:)

Also does this unit have a security code?

Any help is appreciated

Thanks

Roy.:D

Your unit will have a four digit security code.

There is a 6 pin rectanular lead that plugs into the back if the head unit - I think this is responsible for the steering wheel controls.

They also need to be plugged into the rotary coupler behind the steering wheel. (you will see the socket and the plug comes from the remote switches)

Steve

Thanks for the info. makes sense

I chanced taking my head unit out last night for 10 mins. plugged back in but no code was asked for...? good news for me.:p

So if I understand it right all I need is a loom running from the back of the head unit (4 empty positions above remote clock display plug) to this rotary coupling behind the steering cowl?

thanks:)

Once a code has been entered, you can disable the code request on Philips models. IIRC you hold the tuning 'up' button until a beep is heard. (this was from Rover cars days which used R770's, R860's and R950's)

I would see what is supplied with your remote controls. The wiring might already be in place. (behind my dash I hace a 6 pin connector going spare as I dont have the clock / display, just the standard clock)

Is your connector accessible? can you get a jpeg of what's plugged in? thanks for you help

I'll see what I can do. My vehicle came with the low-line LR cassette player / radio with the small detachable panel. (I have seen the same in Fiat Punto's and Rover Metro's)

If I can get to it I'll photograph - might have to be a weekend job as busy at work today and tomorrow.

Also my vehicle does not have steering wheel controls - i just happen to have a set with 2 inches of wire and a two pronged connector. They must work through the rotary coupler to avoid getting tangled.

Steve

Well new wheel is fitted, looks better than "Teal" heuurrggh!

Sadly the wheel mounted controls are not plug and play! so I'd need to figure out a loom at some point.

Interestingly it only has 2 wires coming from the switch anyway so if anyone knows the positions of these 2 wires in the vertical multiplug that would be great!

thanks
