Hi,

Hoping for some help - I've spent a lot of time on Google / search and have ground to a halt.

I'm trying to change my steering wheel (need more room in the cab). The steering column is definitely 36 spline as I've taken the old wheel off using a puller. Landy is a defender 110 td5 55 plate county station wagon.

I bought a Mountney m sport wheel and a kk807x mount, (which is 36 spline) but the mount is too tight and won't go on the steering column and the last thing I want to do is force it.

Any suggestions on / experience of a better mount with a 70mm pcd?

Thanks in advance

Andy

If it is an aluminium boss drop it in a pan of boiling water for a few minutes, it should expand enough to slip on the column. But make sure it is correctly aligned first :) as it will be a pig to get off once cooled.

Thanks for the tips all. Concerned as you say about not being able to get it off. No split in it. Might try and return it and try a different make. Its so tight at the moment I'd never remove it if it went all the way on. If I find a better option I'll post it here.

Just to finish this thread off, I managed to get my hands on another mountney kk807x boss and it was exactly the same i.e. far too tight and would hardly slide onto the splines. I'm wondering if it's designed for a steering wheel column for a different vehicle with a slightly narrower shaft with a one size fits all approach.

I've bought a wildcat 36 spline boss and it went straight on without any drama and was significantly better machined.

Thanks for the comments on the original issue. Back to enjoying my 110 :)

Cheers,

BFG
