steering wheel grinding

Ediths steering wheel used to grind on the shroud.

Post-bulkhead / chassis swap, everything all built up nicely, but the wheel still grinds on the shroud. How do you adjust this?

Shroud on correctly, dash all square and neat (squarer than my Td5), everyting built up as per parts drawing and haynes.

Is it possible to adjust the inner steering column bit upwards within the outer steering column?

Or is there a "put a big washer in there between the wheel and shroud" method?

Mine used to do that it sounded like there was an Ent stuck in there. Any how I just slackened the shroudy bit off prized it clear with a screwdriver an nipped it all back up again. Dont think theres any adjustment on the column.

I ended up trimming a bit off my shroud.

I've adjusted it every which way, and can't see how to trim it as it grinds along the seam between the upper and lower bits - maybe a sharp blade and sand it down?

Will hunt about for some sort of spacer - it'll only need couple of mm, so I guess a big washer.

I attacked mine with a small fine file.

attack and small fine file not usually words seen together.

I'll give that a go the morn.

Aye I know the outer column would move the shroudybit but if the inner column could move up within the outer column, problem solved.

Had a look at my Td5 wheel and its about 10mm from the shroud.
